Bolfo Wins Wolfstone Stables 1.40m Speed Challenge; Torano Wins The Caristo Family 1.30m Speed Class
Lake Placid, NY – June 25, 2026 – The international competition kicked off on Thursday at the 2026 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS), Sponsored by The Bainbridge Companies, LLC, and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC, with Vasco Flores (PUR) bringing home top honors in the $5,000 Stonehenge Stables FEI 3* Two-Phase. Flores piloted Clover M Sporthorses LLC’s Stena through the timers in 33.05 seconds to best a field of 47 entries representing nine countries.
The LPHS feature two weeks of world-class competition at the North Elba Showgrounds, June 23-July 5, sanctioned by the U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) and International Equestrian Federation (FEI).

With their early round, Flores and Stena posted the fastest of many double-clear efforts over Nick Granat’s two-phase course. They ultimately secured victory in 33.05 seconds, over two seconds faster than their fellow competitors.
“Today was fantastic, and I’m very happy to be here,” Flores said. “I’m very fortunate to have Stena right now; she’s a very competitive horse. She felt very comfortable in the ring. She thrives in these speed classes, and that’s why we brought her here. My plan was to set a pretty dominating pace right off the bat and hope for the best that it would stick to the end. I knew we had a pretty good round, so it was just dependent on how many others were going to chase that time. You never know at these big events; when you have a fantastic horse show like Lake Placid, everyone comes to compete.”
Ireland’s Philip McGuane landed in second place for his 35.15-second time aboard Evergate Stables LLC’s Donvier. Third went to American Schuyler Riley, who stopped the clock in 35.58 seconds aboard Cornet’s Pezi, owned by Wolfstone Stables & Sales Inc.

Earlier in the day, Francesca Bolfo topped a field of 37 entries in the Wolfstone Stables 1.40m Speed Challenge with a clean round aboard Duterra’s Jadalco. The pair finished the single-round course in a ground-covering 65.250 seconds (over a second faster than their fellow competitors).
Then JJ Torano bested a field of 51 entries to join the winner’s circle in The Caristo Family 1.30m Speed Class. He posted a fast, clean time of 59.551 seconds with Diamond, owned by Strasburg Morin Inc.

Located in the historic Olympic town of Lake Placid, NY, the annual Lake Placid Horse Shows offer two weeks of exciting equestrian competition in a setting no other horse show can match that helps make the Lake Placid Horse Shows, “The Best Two Weeks of a Horseman’s Summer!” LPHS hosts competitions for riders of all levels and ages ranging from young children on polished ponies, to glistening hunters and Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Competition starts at 8:00 a.m. daily and features classes running simultaneously in four spectacular show rings.
This year features a special Community Appreciation Day Sponsored by Uihlein Foundation, on Saturday, June 27 with FREE ADMISSION and lots of family fun attractions including the horse show’s annual Doggie Costume Contest Sponsored by Man and Beast, plus airbrush tattoos, balloon animals, a clown, tours of the new showgrounds, selfie stations, games, treats and lots of surprises, in addition to the chance to watch world-class horses and riders compete in classes such as the $32,000 CSI3* Speed Derby Presented by Purina Animal Nutrition and the $25,000 Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) 1.45m Jumper Classic.
Tickets for the horse shows are available at the gate. Admission is free each Tuesday, $8 each Wednesday-Friday, and $12 each Saturday-Sunday, except for Community Appreciation Day on June 27 which is free. Veterans get 1/2 off daily, and children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
