Lake Placid, NY – July 3, 2026 – Samuel Hutton (GBR) rode Etincelle D’Ellipse to victory in the $32,000 Purina Animal Nutrition FEI 3* Speed Class Friday at the I Love New York Horse Show, the second week of the 2026 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS), Sponsored by The Bainbridge Companies and Presented by Sea Shore Stables. Hutton topped a field of 25 entries at the North Elba Showgrounds.
Eight-time Olympic veteran Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) was the first to try the 15-effort, one-round course designed by Alan Wade, course designer for the 2028 Olympic Games, and he set a tough mark to beat with a clean ride in 66.94 seconds on Ziggy Stardust. Pessoa’s lead held for half the class until Hutton dropped him to second with a clean ride in 66.70 seconds on his Selle Francais mare. None of the remaining 12 entries could match Hutton’s ride, with the closest being Vasco Flores (PUR) who finished clean in 67.79 seconds on Stena to take third.
“I was getting on my horse when Rodrigo went so I didn’t see his round, but I had someone watching and she told me he was really fast,” Hutton said. “I had a plan when I walked and I know my horse really well and I knew what she could do. She’s really fast and I know where I can take risks. I stuck to the plan and I wasn’t chasing anybody. Luckily, we were a split second faster than Rodrigo.”

Other winners on Friday included Laura Chapot on Ciego in the $5,000 Merrill L. Thomas, Inc. 1.25m Jumper Classic; David Wilbur won the Open on Culiko EB, and Elizabeth Rinehart won the Junior/Amateur on Talk, in the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby presented by Perfect Products; Ava Papez won the $1,000 Camp Treetops and North Country School NAL Children’s Hunter Classic on Hamilton; and Logan Baras rode On Your Mark to the win in the $2,500 Whiteface Club and Resort Pony Hunter Classic .

Located in the historic Olympic town of Lake Placid, NY, the annual Lake Placid Horse Shows offer two weeks of exciting equestrian competition in a setting no other horse show can match that helps make the Lake Placid Horse Shows, “The Best Two Weeks of a Horseman’s Summer!” LPHS hosts competitions for riders of all levels and ages ranging from young children on polished ponies, to glistening hunters and Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Competition starts at 8:00 a.m. daily and features classes running simultaneously in four spectacular show rings.
This weekend features Saturday’s main event, the $100,000 CSI3* Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix presented by Friends of the Lake Placid Horse Shows. More hunter and jumper classics also take place on Sunday, including the $25,000 Knockers Field 1.45m Jumper Classic presented by the Postage Stamp Farm Foundation.
Tickets for the horse shows are available at the gate. Admission is $12 per day on Saturday and Sunday. Veterans get 1/2 off daily, and children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
