Valencio and Amanda Steege Emerge as High Performance/Performance Hunter Champions
Lake Placid, NY – July 1, 2026 –Brianne Goutal-Marteau (USA) rode S&L Marlon VD Heffinck to victory in the $5,000 North Star Equine Sports Medicine FEI 3* Two-Phase class at the I Love New York Horse Show, the second week of the 2026 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS), Sponsored by The Bainbridge Companies and Presented by Sea Shore Stables. Goutal-Marteau topped a field of 52 entries at the North Elba Showgrounds.
Riding 16th in the order, Goutal-Marteau rode her 14-year-old stallion clean over both phases of the course designed by Alan Wade, course designer for the 2028 Olympic Games. Her time of 32.56 proved more than fast enough for the win. Finishing second on Camillo Du Perchet with a time of 34.35 seconds was Lucas Mejia Fanjul (COL) and third went to David O’Brien (IRL) who finished in 34.91 seconds on Coleccini.
“He’s a veteran for me and I really trust that I can take any option that I want, “Goutal-Marteau said. “He’s really started specializing in these speed classes so when I see these long runs and tight turns, I know I can leave out strides and still turn very neatly on the landing. Still, as always, you need to have a little luck. The plan really worked out the way we hoped it would and I’m super happy with the result.
“It’s a pleasure being at this show. We have amazing footing and it’s been great the whole two weeks. We love coming up here.”
Prior to the FEI class, Goutal-Marteau claimed victory in the Hampton Inn and Suites 1.40m Two-Phase Jumper Class. Riding Imogen D’Aiguilly, Goutal-Marteau was one of 12 entries to go clean in both phases, with her time of 28.592 seconds in the second phase giving her the win. Devin Ryan placed second on Nadal ZL with a time of 29.058 seconds and third went to Campbell Brown who finished in 30.030 seconds on Mansini Ltd.

In Hunter competition, Valencio, owned by Frances Moppett and shown by Amanda Steege, won the Championship in the 3’6” High Performance/Performance Hunter Division. Quando VA, owned by Laura Sexton and shown by Ailish Cunniffe, was Reserve Champion.
In the Green Hunter 3’6” division, St. Moritz, owned by Susan Moriconi and shown by Michael Andrade, won the championship. Winter Moon, owned by Cathy Rheinheimer and shown by Heather Kuiper, finished as Reserve Champion.

Located in the historic Olympic town of Lake Placid, NY, the annual Lake Placid Horse Shows offer two weeks of exciting equestrian competition in a setting no other horse show can match that helps make the Lake Placid Horse Shows, “The Best Two Weeks of a Horseman’s Summer!” LPHS hosts competitions for riders of all levels and ages ranging from young children on polished ponies, to glistening hunters and Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Competition starts at 8:00 a.m. daily and features classes running simultaneously in four spectacular show rings.
The I Love New York Horse Show features Wednesday’s $5,000 CSI3* Two-Phase presented by North Star Equine Sports Medicine, Thursday’s $45,000 CSI3* Welcome Stake presented by Brianne Goutal LLC, Friday’s $32,000 CSI3* Speed Derby presented by Purina Animal Nutrition and $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby presented by Perfect Products, and Saturday’s The Clothes Horse Parade of Champions leading up to the main event, the $100,000 CSI3* Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix presented by Friends of the Lake Placid Horse Shows. More hunter and jumper classics also take place on Sunday, including the $25,000 Knockers Field 1.45m Jumper Classic presented by the Postage Stamp Farm Foundation.
Tickets for the horse shows are available at the gate. Admission is free each Tuesday, $8 each Wednesday-Friday, and $12 each Saturday-Sunday. Veterans get 1/2 off daily, and children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
